 | Comments: |
Winter approach on the well packed Lincoln Gap road from end of plowing adds about 1.25 miles to the summer trail for around 3.9mi. to the top. The Long Trail north is easy to follow, frozen hard & overlaid w/ loose snow, used microspikes all the way. Icy and steep as you near the summit. Long Trail north of Mt. Abe(4,006') is still solid underfoot with deeper snow, snowshoes are needed to traverse the ridge toward Appalachian Gap. A few more inches are falling tonight.
Snowing on the ascent, summit temp 12F @ noon, winds 15-20mph, visibility 50 feet or so. No one else on the mountain today. |
