Comments
Comments: The Long Trail to Jay Peak was in great condition with minor pooling from recent rainfall. Draining well. Trail in great condition with no on-trail snow. Big Jay herd path had intermittent snow cover, the most in the last 2/10 of a mile to Big Jay summit, but starting a 1/2 mile from peak. Intermittently from two to four feet. Surprisingly, in a sturdier summer boot, I had no issues with slipping or sliding and it was well consolidated and somewhat stable. Trekking poles helped with no post holing past ankle depth (on descent). Donned a trail crampon (Hillsound) on my plant foot on the descent. Worked out nice but probably would have been fine without. I expect that there will be snow remaining on Big Jay for the next couple weeks.
