 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
As mentioned by Nick in a post from yesterday, the lot is not plowed. I drove up to the snow plow turn around and came back and parked on the road off the fog line in the direction of Lincoln. A few others did the same thing. |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow - Spring Snow, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Down low, one snow bridge is gone, with an easy hop on to the rocks to get over. Despite melting water hadn't risen at all on the way out. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Some minor blowdown up high that was easy enough to duck under, but if you're taller, you might think differenly! |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
There was evidence of dogs(poop), but no dogs on the trail today. :( |
|
 | Bugs: |
Snow fleas like those postholes! |

After reading Nick's report yesterday, I thought the postholes would be horrible, but with snowshoes they were manageable. That chimney between E. Osceola and Osceola is intimidating, but the "bypass of the bypass" was easily accessible, but it appeared that some intrepid hikers had gone straight up it. A tip of the cap to those hearty souls! Thankfully, most of the postholers stopped with East Osceola, so that section of the hike was much more enjoyable. There is a section between the two of actual monorail, that won't last much longer with dirt/eventual mud on either side! Major props to the guide I saw out there with a visually impaired client coming down from East Osceola. I could not imagine navigating the posthole minefield without vision! |
