Comments
Comments: Solo snowshoe on a frigid day to Ascutney via Weathersfield Trail & spurs to Gus's Lookout & West Peak hang glider launch. Trails are mostly packed powder of variable depth but still soft with light drifting at mid-elevations and significant 1'-3' wind-concretized (sastrugi) drifting within 0.3 of the summit. Light, sporadic postholing at mid-elevations becoming much more egregious and stumbly in the deeper drifts higher up. Hopefully more folks will snowshoe it flat before the coming freeze-thaw turns it into an unholy mess later this week. Nearly all the usual ice near the falls covered up by snow. Tower steps caked with hard snow. Bumped into four other hikers during my hike.
