Comments
Comments: Hiked up Blue Ridge Mountain with my brother and his friends today, then we all bushwacked over to the North Peak of Blue Ridge Mountain. Wayfinding on the Canty Trail was easy enough, as the trench was still visible even after recent snows and the blue blazes on the trees were a useful marker. All of us wore microspikes up to the main summit and lookout nearby (worth the detour for the view!) We switched to snowshoes for the bushwack, which limited our sinking depth to about 8-inches in fresh powder. The woods between the two summits is pretty open and easily bushwacked in the winter; can't picture it in the summer. The jar on top of the North Peak was found on the ground at the highest apparent point and could be opened with some elbow grease. Snowshoes stayed on all the way back to the main peak and then all the way back to the cars.
