 | Comments: |
We got a late start after hiking Camel's Hump earlier in the day. The trail is pretty well packed down up to the junction where the Sunset Ridge Trail leaves the logging road. After that it is still packed down but there were some occasional drifts. We chose to go up the Laura Cowles Trail and soon realized that we would not be coming back down the same way - we were wearing snow shoes but the trail is steep and sees plenty of bare boots so it was pretty rough with plenty of frozen post holes along the entire route. Going up was fine but we didn't want to catch a foot in one of the deep holes on our way back down in the dark. There was no real route to follow at the summit (most of the previous tracks had been filled in with windblown snow) so we made our own. The Sunset Ridge Trail was in good condition the entire way back to the junction with the logging road. |
