 | Comments: |
The gap road is well packed by snowmobiles, skis, sleds, etc. Gains about 1,000' in 1.4 miles to the trailhead.
The Long Trail is well packed and micro-drifted from the fresh millimeters. There are some very icy stretches up to about "the carpenters", two big boulders the trail passes through. Above here it gets progressively snowier with good footing, even on the steeps near the summit.
Summit temp 15F at 1:25 p.m., winds about 20-25 mph.
No other hikers but someone stayed in Battell Shelter last night ( below the summit) and they wrote in the log it had been -1F @ 8pm. Warmed up all afternoon though. 8 miles (with road), 3:15 roundtrip. |
