 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Lower sections of Jerusalem Trail are on private land in a working forest, sugarbush & timber harvesting, and they were working it today. Trail is pretty torn up in places where a skidder has been dragging logs. Slash lying around, obstructing the trail in places. Very thin snow cover mixed with mud and ice in work areas, light traction a necessity. Fresh blue blazes help to stay on track through the logging.Above the sap lines things get pristine again. |

Much less snow than when I was here 3 weeks back. Solid underfoot for microspikes with some dusting on Jerusalem Trail (See also Trail Maintenance notes above). Big ice bulges as you top the ridge to join the Long Trail, clever use of microspikes and wits required. On the LT, a solid ski track along the ridge, firm enough in today's temps that snowshoes stayed on the pack. Avoid following ski tracks out onto slopes , stay right on the LT, ski tracks end and trail becomes drifted, but can be followed all the way. Came out below the lift shack and popped back in the woods to the summit, temp 9F @ 12:30. Clouded up quick in the afternoon. Checked out LT north of jerusalem Trail to jct. for Glen Ellen Lodge- ski tracks to cabin, bareboots coming from north on LT from a day or two back. No other hikers up here today, very peaceful on the ridge. |
