The mountain got around a foot of snow the other day. The popular trails ( Monroe & Burrows) are packing out well. About 1/2 the people out used snowshoes, but it's solid enough for boots. In my group of 4 I was the only one in snowshoes and at least one other guy said he wished he had his. Nice winter surface all the way. Trees are snow-blasted as you near the ridge, and all summit rocks were completely covered by wind packed snow. The Alpine Trail from the L.T. south of the summit appeared lightly tracked out from down at the junction, but as I was the only one in snowshoes we returned the way we came rather than looping over the top. Winds 10-15 mph and temp -15F on the summit around noon. Face protection was in play, and goggles, more needed in the moderate wind due to the low temps. Blue sky overhead but visibility only a couple hundred yards. On the rest of the mountain, it was 5-10 below and sunny, didn't feel bad in the trees. Excellent day up there, thanks DJ, Jeff & Matt.
