 | Trails: |
Red Trail, White Trail |
 | Date of Hike: |
Monday, May 30, 2011 |
 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Room for maybe 3-6 cars adjacent to trailhead. Wheeler Mountain Road sign in US 5 is missing. |
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Significant |
 | Recommended Equipment: |
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Near trailhead, rock hoppable. |
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Cut out an annoying blowdown on upper White Trail. A few remain on the lower portions of the trails, stepover if I recall. |
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Would advise against bringing dogs on Red Trail - lots of ledge scrambles, no fall zones. |
 | Bugs: |
A few deer flies near the trailhead (oy!) and a few black flies, but not too bad on the ridge. |

 | Comments: |
Near Lake Willoughby. What a fantastic mountain!
Red Trail has quite a few ledge scrambles - would advise against using it when wet (such as today after previous night's rain) or icy or descending. Hoards of ledge views on Red Trail and along ridge. Both trails had some mud in the flats near the trail kiosk. Hope to return for fall foliage. |
