|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Wide brook crossing at the trailhead is running strong but can be rock-hopped with trekking poles and some finesse. Upper two crossings are no problem. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
No large blowdowns. Hedgehog Brook Trail's upper portions have been seriously eroded for years and are even worse after torrential rains about ten days ago. Ladders on the steeps to the ridge are falling apart. Slippery wet rock sections abound. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Jetty postholed a little in some soft snow on the ridge, otherwise good going. |

 | Comments: |
Hedgehog Brook Trail and Burnt Rock Mtn. (3,168') are on private land with a conservation easement. It isn't posted against mud season use and is frequented by local hikers year round. Currently there is some snowpack left on the ridge, but it's going fast. The Long Trail north & south of the summit is still pretty snowy and obscured. Bare boots worked well for the mixed terrain on Burnt Rock. Summit scrambles are bare rock. Lower trails are snowless to about 2,400'. A dusting of fresh snow fell on the ridge last night but melted by afternoon. Looked like the Presi's got some since I was there mon. 5/2, they were hazy white in the east. Saw one other hiker, whom I knew. |
