Comments
Comments: Low elevation hike over Thistle Hill (1,964') out and back to Thistle Hill Shelter from Cloudland Road in S. Pomfret. Trail varies from bare ground to knee deep postholing depending on which way the slope faces. Snowshoes would have had to be on and off frequently, but I had optimistically left them home anyway. No signs of recent use, very peaceful rolling terrain over fields, hardwoods, and a mature spruce stand. Ate lunch at the shelter and remembered overnighting here in "97. Followed my tracks back and found some deer had already been following them. Nice privy at one of the 2 snowmobile trail crossings. Spring needs another week or so to fully arrive on this part of the trail.
