Did the traverse southbound, ascending via Monroe trail which was very bootable. Summit temp 13F, winds around 30mph. Dropped over the south side knowing that at least 8 people had been over the L.T. between here and Wind Gap yesterday- I had passed them on my way to Mt. Ethan Allen (3,680') and saw them again on the lower mountain after they had completed the traverse. Tracks are intermittent due to drifting, and wander somewhat but intersect the Long Trail here & there. Snowshoes would be inefficient on the uneven and sometimes very steep track. Pretty solid base under the drifting, I micro-spiked all day. Visibility less than yesterday but Moosilauke and the Franconias were in the clear. Dean trail was drifting but solid.
-Nice running into Mike Finnegan on break from MWOBS , the only other hiker on this side of the mountain. |
