 | Comments: |
With Wheelerville Road posted as closed for mud season, and with the upcoming Vermont State Park spring trail closure, the Bucklin Trail is technically closed until mid-May. Trail hadn't been snowshoed since most recent snowfall (1-2"). Lost the trail in the glades below Cooper Lodge, bushwhacked up to it, then continued up Killington Spur (very filled in - sign and blazes just above snow, branches at belt level), which had a frozen granular base with an inch or two of powder/granular. Lost trail again below Cooper Lodge, but eventually reconnected...lots of old blazes, as well as turns without double blazes or blazes on back side of trees. Crust off trail very firm and will support snowshoes without sinking - great for bushwhacking. Lots of skiers in the glades. |
