Trails
Trails: South Trail, North Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, May 26, 2019
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We spotted cars at both trailheads. Plenty of parking when we arrived but may have gotten more crowded later in the day. Only parking at the North trailhead is along the shoulder of Route 5A. Parking at the South trailhead is much more plentiful.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossings on the lower North trail easily rock hopped, although having poles helped. No water crossings on the South trail.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trails are in fine shape.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We saw many happy dogs and one happy hiking goat named Monroe.
Bugs
Bugs: Surprisingly not bad.... a good northwest breeze helped but with one dose of 40% DEET I was fine for the hike as long as I kept moving. A brief run shower at the summit helped quell the black flies too.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: lost nothing, found nothing, other than the bliss of a great hike in Vermont.

Comments
Comments: South Trail (ascent) North Trail (descent)

A perfect day for a hike of the Pisgah Ridge. Bugs were minimal, trail has a few muddy spots but nothing terrible. Just a great hike and the views of Willoughby are fantastic.
