Comments
Comments: Trails had alot of snow which was mostly but not completely packed out on Laura Cowles which is less traveled than Sunset Ridge. Snowshoes are recommended on Laura Cowles to avoid post holeing but it was doable with microspikes with added difficulty. 1 of the people in our group carried skis up Laura Cowles and it was extremely difficult for him because the skis kept snagging on low branches which led to snow falling off the branches on him. It would have been better to carry skis up sunset ridge where there were way less low branches. Microspikes were adequate on sunset ridge which was well packed out. There were no difficult scrambles on either route, if there are any they were completely snow covered. There was minor ice on the exposed areas above and near tree line but nothing that wasn't easily handed with microspikes. The views from the top were amazing and it was my favorite 4000 footer in VT.
