Parked in Jay Pass and headed northbound on the Long Trail. Detoured over to check out the camp before heading up towards the summit. The lower part of the Long Trail had some open water in the trail, so people stuck to the side just off the trail. Broke out the upper part of Jay Peak, which was easy. The snow had hardened up nicely with a dusting on top. I didn't post hole at all this time with snowshoes (unlike yesterday on Breadloaf and Wilson). Broke out the herd path towards Big Jay, also an easy undertaking with the firm snowpack. There is some flagging scattered around but best not to depend on them to much. Another 2 feet of snow will bury a lot of the flaggings. The last entry in the summit canister was from Novemeber. Heading back towards Jay, passed by 3 backcountry skiers. Heading down Jay Peak down the LT, 4 people were heading up. |
