Long Trail (from Long Trail Inn), Pico Link
Pretty perfect day for a hike. I was joined by Tim (BikeHikeSkiFish) and his wife Jennifer - her first winter mountain hike, but she's a pro anyway, great pace! Conditions still quite good, hard pack all the way with an inch or two of fresh snow on top. Some isolated post-holing if veering off-trail, same as everywhere else lately. Barebooted all the way up, wore spikes on the way down to ease our way on the ice flows on-trail up high. A select few ice bridges gave way, and more may do so after next 24ish hours of warmer temps and rain. By Saturday, though, things should harden up again.
First ski trail we crossed was closed, but ski area in operation and saw lots on the summit. Enjoyed a bite next to a summit tower with a prime view of Killington and Mendon. There's a 2/3-full bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon at the cabin, yours for the consuming! (not left by us, to be clear... :) |
