Nice early hike to get ready for winter. A little mud in the early part of the trail. Snow line about halfway up. We put on microspikes awhile after reaching the snow line. Past the intersection with the Dean Trail, the Monroe Trail would go from dry to running water, to mud to packed snow and some ice. Breaking out on the ledges there was several inches of snow and rime ice. Spikes were necessary. When we were ascending it appeared we would get a clear summit with undercast but when we actually made it to the top the fog had returned. We could not wait for it to clear as it was too cold / windy for Stanley. |
