Thanks to Little Brown Mushrooms 12/21 report I wore my snow shoes up Laura Cowles to the chin and down most of Sunset Ridge before going bare-booted rest of the way down. The trail up had a couple inches fresh snow covering crunch/blue ice, my Tubbs have great crampons and I glided up. Up higher to the chin, the exposed rock was ice covered and a lot of drifts interspersed. The snow was deep heading back down towards Sunset Ridge, then once on the false peak descending off the ridge there was dry exposed rock/ice cover rock, very challenging going down there. Once off the ridge line the ice disappeared, the snow was deep and powdery, so it felt like I flew down. |
