Connector to Forest City, up Long Trail north, down Burrows
Temps in the 40s. Wet snow did ball up under spikes. Some ice-crusted water puddles. Good, manageable scrambles up the LT. Exposed rock boulders just before the summit were covered in snow, so blazes unseen - careful footing needed. Very icy approaching the summit. Experienced atmospheric inversion nearing the summit as temps got warm and from the summit we could see a sea of fog/cloud with the Chin of Mount Mansfield clearly seen poking up and blue sky up above. Very icy on descent below summit on LT down to the hut clearing - great caution needed. Less snow on Burrows (more well-travelled), patches of ice, otherwise easy/moderate trail. Would recommend traction. |
