Wow I guess my 1996 Falcon Guides' "Hiking in Vermont" book is showing its age. All three water crossings on the initial 2-miles in had beautiful bridges across them, and the local conservancy had built several other 3-sided stairs-stairways so this was like a sidewalk for the first bit. Even the ascent was nicely graded and only the top 0.2 was what we typically get in the Whites. Which was great as my supposed rehabbing of an August injury is taking forever.
Tons of people from the gondola ride were also at the summit on one of those breezy, sun-drenched Indian summer days. We didn't march thru the trails down to the gondola to see the views from the bowl side of the mountain, kinda wish we did. |
