After hiking Black Mountain in Clemons, New York, I decided to visit the famous Maine Junction, a mile from US 4 via the AT/LT.
Maine Junction is the point where the Appalachian Trail and the Long Trail, which run together from the Mass. border northward, split. At Maine Junction, the AT veers straight (right) toward the White Mountains and Mt. Katahdin; the LT veers left to Canada via the Green Mountain spine. Only 2 miles roundtrip, but I've wondered about this spot for the longest time. |
