Parking/Access Road Notes: Lot spilled over into road. Road was in very good condition considering the terrain
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water was low to non-existent at most crossings. Good running water at brook right near Battell Trail crossing and near shelter.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Several big blowdowns between 2950 and 3175 elevation. All easily worked around or under. Significant trail work closer to Lincoln Gap. More needed. Trail in great shape otherwise - south-facing slopes and recent lack of rain meant mud season ended early on this stretch. Just north of summit, though, there was some last, lingering snow and softer conditions. I quickly turned back after a peek.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Several happy dogs seen amid dozens of people hiking this pretty peak.
Bugs
Bugs: Only a few seen and none causing trouble yet.

Comments
Comments: Beautiful day out on trail. The steep pitches in the last 0.3 were memorably tough and fun. The southward views from them were breathtaking. The terraced climb of alternating close MHz and level stretches over the first mile and a quarter - about 15 by my count - allowed for breathers, that and the pretty flowers which lured the eye. The shelter is rugged and sturdy, well situated and equipped. The only thing more I could've asked for would've been 100 mile views, but 50 in most directions was still pretty good.
