Comments
Comments: Located in Plainfield VT about 10 miles outside Montpelier off of Rte 2. In Plainfield turn Right downhill onto main street and go .5 mile and turn right onto east hill road - 3.8 miles then turn left onto spruce mtn road 1 mile to trailhead. Looking for a late afternoon hike and this was perfect! An easy 4.2 mile up and back to a great fire tower. first half is on easy grades on a road which eventually narrows to a trail but nothing steep anywhere along the entire trail, Trail was packed powder with a few patches of ice up higher and A few spots with ice hiding under the snow - wore traction but could be navigated with just boots. Views are from the top of the fire tower (open) that are expansive but stairs did have some ice. There is also a viewpoint with limited views past the tower for those not wanting to venture up the steep stairs of the tower. Met 4 others out today.
