Trails
Trails: Bushwhack, park roads, Fire Tower Trail, Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, December 13, 2014
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I chose alternate parking rather than the beach parking for it looked bad in there. At least 8 cars used it however; so probably non issue.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts, Snow - Wet/Sticky
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Couple of minor crossings on Ridge Tr. easily rock hopped
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I cleared the Fire Tower Tr. on Thursday. Lightly tapping the overhanging hardwoods worked very well clearing them of sticking snow so that they sprung back up. In the upper elevations more ice on fragile branches so I figured best to let mother nature deal with it. A few larger limbs across trail that will need saw work in future. Found the Ridge Tr. today not as bad as anticipated with more soft woods; having only an occasional duck under. Use caution on the narrow bridge on Ridge Tr.. Rail on side may not be too secure and narrow tread way over has a lot of depth under it.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dog friendly trails; usually a few present.
Bugs
Bugs:
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Lost trail, found trail repeat!

Comments
Comments: Consistent 16" of new snow since Tuesday. Few 3' drifts. Not much traffic. Fire Tower Tr. to foundation barely broken out, Ridge Tr. only my snowshoe tracks going down. Lower elevations were tough breaking out with 2 layers of dense, heavy snow. Each step would sink twice. Fun day route finding as a normally easy (lots of blazes) trail wasn't so easy with the snow and leaning branches covering many blazes. About 6 short detours; if following and you hit one just backtrack and take option 2. Likely that I have been up here more recently than this report so if I can answer any questions feel free to contact me.
