Comments
Comments: The snow from the Thanksgiving storm was unbroken at a depth of about 8 inches, and the trail was problematic to follow at times because of this. The trail is marked in red, but there are also orange marks that define the boundary of the state forest. After the CCC road, the trail splits into red and blue blazes. Both trails end up at the summit. The trail was significantly slippery, so some type of traction or, at least, poles are recommended, though it is not absolutely necessary, providing you are okay with slipping and falling a lot. The hike took about 4 hours. We started at 12:45 and returned to the parking lot at 5:00 PM. There was just enough light to bring us back without using flashlights.

Here are some tips on the trail intersections: (1) The trail starts on a logging road and veers off into the woods at the indication of arrow-shaped sign that reads "TRAIL." (2) Soon after this, there are signs for the red trail and the kirby connector pointing in the same direction. Follow the wide level path until you reach a second sign that splits the trails. (3) After crossing the CCC road, the trails split into red and blue blazes. (4) When the trail reaches the open area near the ski-lifts, it stays close to the woods from which it emerges and then re-enters the woods a few hundred feet on.
