Paine Mountain (top of old Norwich Ski area)
All the many trails up this mountain have had much traffic, both snowshoes, skis, traction or bareboot. Trails are mostly wide allowing for plenty of room to avoid the occasional skier coming down. There are well packed bushwack trails everywhere. I took the red trail near the top, otherwise bushwacked on most direct routes. The old ski lift path is well packed down. This former ski are is partly grown over, and has nice views to the west and, near the top, has views to the north. The trail conditions today were some of the nicest I have ever seen anywhere, no rocks, just hard packed powder. WOW! |
