 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Large lot off beach road is open all winter and usually nicely plowed with room for many cars. Access to upper parking lot available for another week (hunting season) but may require 4WD. Ice under 2-4" new snow. |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Ice - Black, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Snow - Unpacked Powder |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Bridged or minor |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Some new blowdowns on Ridge Tr.; will try to clear path on warmer day. Ridge Tr. is fairly new (Oct 2012) and could be hard to follow in winter but there are many bright blue blazes; so if one loses trail they can refind easily with a little searching. Signage fine now but 1.1 mile distance labeled at jct.(for jct. to fire tower via Fire Tower Tr.)is closer to 1.5 miles(measured by wheel). |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw many out Saturday but only 1 today. Blaze orange a good idea with hunting season going on and hunters in area occaisionally. |

Coin flip today between here and Mt. Washington. Heads said Elmore (and a look at the MWOB conditions brrrr!!!!). 8 degrees with 34 mph winds in tower at noon; downright balmy conditions compared to the tails side of the coin. Wore microspikes car to car as there was ice throughout under 2-4" of new snow. Not necessary but sped pace up. What a difference a day makes. Yesterday lots of bare, easily followed trail. Today lots of overhanging branches and deadfall covering trail creating a couple of stop and refind trail situations. Nice loop hike for today as there is not a lot of exposure. |
