Middlesex Trail up Mt. Hunger (3,539') very challenging on the upper 1/3, snow and light ice over unfrozen ground with lots of running water. Slippery exposed slabs made this feel more like a climb than a hike. Icy also on the Waterbury side of the summit, slightly better crossing the ridge to White Rock Mtn. (3,194'). Still wet but better footing descending the White Rock Trail back to Middlesex TH. I'd think twice about trying to descend the Middlesex Tr. from Hunger! Socked in and snowing all morning. If this freezes harder it would be worth having microspikes along... |
