This is a really nice, moderate 8-mile loop through BSP. It does go around Watchaug Pond, but most of the time you are in the forest away from the pond, and along the pond's edge for a little bit. There are two road walk sections along this yellow-blazed trail. There are extensive well-maintained boardwalks through the low lying areas, some brooks, one small waterfall just off trail, and some ledges near the trail in one area. The trail goes through the huge BSP campground, which will open late after May 31 this year and with reduced capacity (ie- fewer than the usual 700 campsites available). A map is helpful but not necessary. Follow the yellow blazes carefully;for about a third of the trail there are also blue blazes because it is part of the North-South Trail. There are some other trails that connect to this one. |
