We never knew this place was here. We found out about it from the book called The Rhode Island Family Hiking Guide by Jeannine Silversmith. The 88 acre park is in the southwest corner of Providence near Cranston and Johnston. We hiked about 2 miles, which is about the extent of it, but there is a lot to see and Providence's high point (close to 300 feet) is in this park. There is hilly glacial moraine terrain, rock outcrops, at least two great viewpoints looking toward downtown, bodies of water, rusty old Camaros, an old bandstand foundation, Works Progress Administration steps, a monument to the King family, an old ski slope and sledding hill, and nice woods. Nice place! |
