Water Crossing Notes: All were easy to cross.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Zealand Tr, Twinway, and Ethan Pond Tr were in excellent shape. There had been a new bridge built over the water where the "Z" shaped bridge used to be along the Zealand Tr. Zeacliff Tr was a little brushy in spots but normal for a Wilderness Area trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Marlie and Brewer had a geat time except for when the rain became steady. There was lots of water to drink along the way although the upper portion of the Twinway would probably be dry if not for the recent rain. We saw a small (15-20 lbs)brown fury dog heading south along the Zealand Tr just after the new bridge. It was 15 minutes before we saw the next people so we inquired about the dog. Apparently its owner had headed down to the parking lot to look for it. We met her just before the barking lot and told her where the dog was. I hope it turned out well.

Comments
Comments: We were lucky to have the rain hold off until 1pm. Most of the foliage is past peak but a few trees are still radiating colors and the hobble bush was bright orange. We walked up the falls from the hut to get some nice pics and rejoined the Twinway at the top. At Zeacliff we had good views into the valley with the clouds still above 5000'.

On the way back from Zealand Mtn we decided to pass on visiting Zeacliff Pond as it was starting to rain and the clouds had lowered. The wet leaves and rocks were quite slick on the Zeacliff Tr. In the open area near the junction of Zeacliff Tr and Ethan Pond Tr the wind was blowing steady through the valley and the rain had become steady. The water had pooled up on many spots of the Zealand Tr on our return but by the time we reached the parking lot the rain had stopped and the clouds were breaking up on our drive home. This was #47 for my friend Jeremy. In two weeks we will be on Mt Garfield for #48!
