Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings easy rock hops with last crossing on Avalanche Brook being a very short jump or long stepover.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some blowdowns on Scaur Ridge Tr. and south end of Mt. Tripyramid Tr. with all but 2 easily stepped over. These 2 had short paths around.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Glad I didn't have mine with me today when we ran into a pair of moose on the bottom of the South Slide. This route (Scaur up & South Slide down) is fine for most dogs. Plenty of water for them today.

Comments
Comments: My first time on Scaur Ridge Tr.-- what a nice trail. Nice to see the Livermore Tr. repaired from Irene damage. Trails wet today with light showers throughout day. South Slide had dried out but rocks were still slick requiring much care to descend on. Other than here and a few spots on the Pine Bend section it was all easy hiking. Winds not much of a factor on this loop. Few views today. One highlight of day was few tense moments with the moose. Female on the trail and male slightly to side. We went off trail to avoid them and male came over to check us out. Human voices may have convinced him to walk away and we quietly left the area. Exciting encounter!
