Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, September 22, 2012
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We started at 6:10 am and at that time there was two vehicles from Mass. We met the individuals (Nice young couple) who had stayed at the shelter the night before and got an early start up.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossings we did were easily rock hopped with fairly low water. The others were avoioded by the means of the Engine Hill Bushwack.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A couple of blowdowns up high on the Rocky branch trail but pretty easy to step over and or go under. If you are over six feet tall and you choose to go under you will need a little more effort. It would also be kind to insert a few more blazes up high on Rocky branch as well as the Isolation trail. A sign pointing the way to the spur up to the peak would make it easier for people who have never been there. Only becasue the Map makes it appear that the peak is on the Davis Path.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Lots of water for them However, lots of slippery wet rocks and deep mud in spots.
Bugs
Bugs: No Issue.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: We had a great day. It started to rain lightly and lasted a few hours which caused us to cover Our packs. During that time it was overcast and dreary. It slowed and then stopped about the time we had reached the Davis Path. At the summit around 11:30 am we encounted one person who came upon us as we got to the peak.
We chatted for a bit and enjoyed the great views as the cloud cover cleared out revealing the presidential ridge. Awesome views. Let it be known that this trail is very rocky, muddy and slippery, It is on the positive side a very gradual but steady climb, No extreme elevation.
