Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, September 15, 2012
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We got the third of three parking spaces in the small lot that is right at the York Pond trailhead- no road walk is required if you park here!
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All easy but the water levels are low. One or two could be tough with high water.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Mostly as previously stated. The shoulder-high weeds encroaching into the Bunnell Notch Trail were wet but not soaking wet in the morning. Trails were dryer than we expected, but it hasn't rained much. The sign at 3.1 miles for the northbound Kilkenny Ridge Trail was missing, leading to some confusion and consternation. Later we met Lindsay from the U.S. Forest Service with the replacement sign strapped to her pack. By the time we descended she had installed it in the right location. The old trail that goes from there to the unmaintained Mt. Cabot Trail is getting grown over.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Many good slurping spots in the lower and middle elevations but not up high.
Bugs
Bugs: Maybe two seen all day.
