# 48! Quick stop at Ravine Lodge before a 9:00 AM start. We wanted to get going as weather was due to close in. Gorge Brook to Snapper across to Carriage Road, trails in great shape. This route is not too steep with good footing all the way.
I took the whole family for # 48 and I wanted them to have a good time. We made the ridge and the AT in less than two hours. The .8 to summit was in the clouds and fog. When we popped out above tree line the wind was wicked at 50+ MPH. 30 min on summit was enough this day, we then back down same trails. It was Flags On 48 Day and a nice guy gave us all small flags. My grandson really loves his. Thank you!! On the way we had just peeks through the clouds at what must be terrific views. I am going to do this one again! We also passed a huge group in sneakers and sandals, with umbrellas …. just in case in rained. We made the bottom, bought a nice shirt at the Ravine Lodge and the rain started a half hour later while I was having a celebratory beer. Lousy day, nice finish. I hope those umbrellas worked because it was pouring when I left the base! Hey I found this really cool sticker for my truck! |
