Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Plenty of water crossing on Great Gulf Trail. Some bridged, most crossed via rocks. Traverse can be difficult.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few stepover or duckunder blowdowns. Being a designated Wilderness area, there are few (if any) blazes. The trail in the woods is easy enough to follow anyway. Blazes on the headwall were quite faded, though.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Great Gulf Trail good for the dogs with water available all the way to Spaulding Lake. Not sure beyond that is dog suitable, nor is Wamsutta. Very steep.
Bugs
Bugs: No bugs
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Saw a hat on a branch on Great Gulf Trail and a green pullover on the headwall that may have been abandoned some time ago.

Comments
Comments: Beautiful day and amazing scenery. Spaulding Lake is a must, headwall climb not required. Rain the day before made the trails and their obstacles wet ... very slippery. I must have crashed a dozen times. Descent on Wamsutta not recommended in wet conditions.
