Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Just a few stepover minor drainages
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in pretty good condition. A few brushy spots on Walden but these are pretty minor. Walden has a lot of steep somewhat rough sections that have slippery boulders/ledges; it is easier going up than down.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dogs with soft pads and little experience on steep/ledgey trails may want to stick with Diceys Mill. There was very little water on our route; Pepper's only dip was in the brook off Ferncroft Rd at the end but that one felt soooo good. He had wanted to jump into the Tilton spring stone pool at Pasture & Red Path but I blocked that as he might have needed a rescue given its non supportive sediments and steep stone sides. Pepper had a pretty easy day but having skipped breakfast, and with little water, he "broke" into our emergency treats and water by Whiteface. We saw two other dogs, Skidden and a young dog who were enjoying their hikes.

Comments
Comments: This was a very nice contrast to the usual Blueberry & Dicey's Mill routes, with plenty of solutude up to Passaconaway. There was a nice group in several sections spread across the trails that were supporting and then celebrating a finisher of the 48K list. Congrats. The hike up was humid, but by afternoon the air was drying out nicely. Fun hike.
