Comments
Comments: I carried snowshoes, but was able to bareboot the whole trip comfortably without any postholing. Hale Brook Trail was very firm with just a little new powder. Some may prefer snowshoes for traction, and in case of any new snow and/or drifting. Zealand Road was plowed recently, with a little new powder since then. Due to thin cover and exposed pavement/dirt, skiing would be marginal at best -- there were some recent ski tracks, but the one skier I saw said it was "gritty", so rock skis would be in order. It seemed sledable (for hauling a pack etc.), though only with a light load and an expendable sled. The plowing was such that the "shoulders" were covered with chunky debris, so beside-the-road skiing was not a viable option.
