All trails in great condition. One minor wash-out just below Middle Carter but still very passable. The trail markings on top of Mt. Height were confusing (mostly because I mis-read the cairns indicator to go left ;-)) There is a cairn to the NE of the turn that we dismantled. |

My boys and I completed their 20-mile hike requirement for Hiking Merit Badge on this trip. Started 6am from Pinkham and finished 10pm back at the car! Long day, but very satisfying to have bagged a few more 4000-footers (29 total so far for me, 19 for my oldest son, the first 5 for my youngest) and see my sons, 13 and 12 years old, rise to the challenge. Had plans to summit Moriah but with the dark and the long day we pulled out early on Stony Brook and walked the 1.9 miles back to the car on RT16 into Gorham. Morning conditions were great! Had some views on the shoulder of Wildcat but by 9am the fog/clouds rolled in and were there to stay. Got some rain and wind on the Carter ridge but the heaviest rain waited until we were in the car, Thank you God!! All-in-all a great full day on the trial. Hopefully we can get back soon to bag Moriah. |
