| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Jefferson Notch Road from the Cog side is in good shape. Caps Ridge parking lot is fee-free at the moment. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Standing/Running Water on Trail |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
None on Caps Ridge Trail. Others were hoppable today, but the ones on The Link could be tricky in high water, especially the quasi-slide one. As is, on Castle side of that crossing, one has to descend alongside the dropoff, so those not liking heights may be less than illuminated with that. On the Castle Ravine Trail, I think the debris in the upper crossing has worked it's way to the next one down over the past year. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The Link and Castle Ravine Trail were in good shape, Level 1 maintenance-wise. Caps Ridge, on the other hand, is in dire need of Level 1 work - it's extremely brushy (as narrow as 12" wide in places) and the majority of the waterbars are just about completely filled in. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Probably not a good route for most dogs. |
| Bugs: |
Minimal - a few black flies about halfway up Caps Ridge, but not bad. |

| Comments: |
Trails were generally dry. A few minor muddy areas. One or two areas of minor water running down trail. This section of The Link was not as bad as I thought it would be, but I don't plan to return to it anytime soon. The section of The Cornice between Castle and Caps Ridge has some far-spaced-out cairns - probably not a good route in limited visibility. Nice sunset on the way down. |
