Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All low and easy to rock-hop, didn't bother with the bypasses.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: SCA doing work on the bend on Hancock Notch Trail shortly before Cedar Brook Trail comes in, thanks guys! Cedar Brook heavily eroded, a bog bridge is mostly off-trail now, likely moved by Irene last year. Not too hard to pass though. Several mud pits on both sides of the "Middle Hancock" nub, most hoppable through. One is really deep in spots though, I had a trekking pole sink over a foot before I yanked it out! Minor mud along the lower trails, mostly on Cedar Brook. Hancock Notch Trail in good shape overall, lack of many rocks on this grade made for fast walking.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Overall a great dog hike. Plenty of water along the way except for the actual loop over the 2 Hancocks. Dogs that don't like steep climbs need not apply though.
Bugs
Bugs: Mosquitoes buzzing and biting down low, a few biting black flies and a deer fly at the North Hancock overlook. Didn't bother with repellant though.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Saw a (red?) hat on a tree on my way out, left it as it wasn't there on my way in, figured it belonged to someone whom I'd passed shortly before. Hope they saw it on their way out.

Comments
Comments: Quick hit on these 2 peaks waiting on my 2012 48 list. Car-to-car in 5 hours on the nose, with 3 15-min stops (just before fork, both summits). Went up North, down South, but in hindsight I'd advise the opposite. The South link is loose rubble for most of it's length and took care to descend. At the fork on the way out I turned on the jets and cruised to the car in about 1.5 hrs.

Nice views toward Osceolas and co. from the North overlook, very restricted view at the South peak towards Sawyer Valley.

Nice day out, but pretty warm. Good to run into Phil again, whom I'd last seen on Moosilauke on St. Patty's. Only saw a couple people, all on their way out, until I left the South Peak, passed many on their way in then.
