Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, June 17, 2012
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: No issues. Busy, but not jam-packed.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rock-hoppable or bridged. No worries, except for a few slippery spots to negotiate descending Ammonoosuc.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Ammo Trail remains poorly marked and hard to follow in places. Even though I hiked it, up and down, last month, I had trouble following the trail in a few places. Some cairns or blazing in a few places on the uppermost half mile are very much needed.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a few dogs out and about. Gotta take care to make sure your doggie has plenty of water above tree line, and be mindful of their paws on the rough rocks.
Bugs
Bugs: A little buggy in the last stretch of Ammo and a bug or two ascending Jewell, but for the most part some bug spray suffices.
Lost and Found

Comments
Comments: A red-letter day with 50-mile views, minimal winds and a high of 55* F. Great day for a first successful ascent of Big W. It was very hard, difficult descending Crawford and Ammo, but I made it! :)
