Date of Hike: Saturday, June 16, 2012
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Appalachia was overflowing into US2 around 8AM. Pine Link lot on Dolly Copp Road was maybe 1/4th full. Dolly Copp Road can be travelled from Route 16 to US 2 with no issues.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Standing/Running Water on Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: A few on the Amphibranch, King Ravine, and Great Gully - all doable today. Nothing of significance on Pine Link Trail.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Took out some blowdowns on King Ravine Trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Subway would probably be dangerous for most dogs, as one slip could result in them falling into a crevace with no way out. Also a few scrambles on Great Gully and Pine Link that may be tough for some dogs. Lots of sharp, jagged rock would probably be tough for most dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: Generally not too bad. Some up on Adams, but not too bad on Madison. Not bad in lower elevations if moving.
Lost and Found

Comments
Comments: Amphibranch was mostly dry and in good shape. Decent footing.

King Ravine segment had some slippery mossy rock in places. Subway was slow going but neat. Still some snow in the crevaces. Great Gully Trail has a few recent (within a year or so?) small slides, but nothing blocking the trail.

Pine Link Trail around Mt. Madison had some wet spots with water on the trail. Popped onto Mt. Madison via Watson Path, then dropped back onto Pine Link. Next segment had some areas of running water on trail. From Howker Ridge junction down was generally dry with a few areas of minor mud or water. Footing on this trail, top to bottom, was not as bad as I thought, though it was still classic Northern Presi traprock junk around Mt. Madison. Otherwise, probably another nice, quiet way up Mt. Madison.
