Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Kilkenny Ridge section fine. Spring has some blowdowns and really needs a brushing. Mt. Cabot is unmaintained, needs brushing, has some bad mud spots and a couple of places where the trail is hard to follow. The No Trespassing signs have been gone for quite some time now.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Pepper did well today on a fully shaded route. He had no problems with the bushwack.
Bugs
Bugs: Some black flies showed up on the peak after being there for a few minutes. Otherwise none.

Comments
Comments: We bushwacked up Cabot from the west by veering off the Mt. Cabot trail where it heads into a very wet & muddy spot, then on reaching a brook in a short distance heading up it to just past 3000', and then just heading up and west all the way to the peak. We redlined the spring trail on the way down. We went down Mt. Cabot. The original plan had been to do Cabot via Unknown Pond from the North, but I spaced out and found myself at Mt. Cabot so we went that way. I then screwed up taking a side trip around a wet area and decided to just wack up to the peak. It alternated between thick spruce with blowdown and open understory. I think Alex's comment about Church Pond applied, "It was kind of fun but it also sucked." I don't recommend it although Damelsfly would probably enjoy it. I also don't recommend Mt Cabot; the other trails are much more enjoyable and those unfamiliar with the trail could get off it.
