Comments
Comments: John and I parked in the Zealand Trail lot, then hiked back down the road to the Hale Brook trail head. We headed up at 8:45 and found it steeper than we remembered, but reached the summit around 10:30. The weather was beautiful; mid-60s and clear.

After resting and re-applying bug repellant we went down the Lend a Hand Trail and found it very pleasant. Near the top there is a nice ridge walk, then lower down some great views. The bog bridges were in excellent shape and very welcome. We reached the hut around 1:00 and rested, ate lunch, chatted with the caretaker, and enjoyed the wonderful view over the Pemi to Carigain. We reluctantly moved out around 1:30 and reached the car around 2:30.
Critters: We heard warblers all day and actually saw a couple of black-throated greens. Saw moose tracks on Lend a Hand, two garter snakes on Zealand, and toads everywhere. A few other hikers, but not many for such a nice day.
