Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Israel River crossing on Castle Trail rock-hoppable just above the crossing. All but one of the other crossings on the loop required dunking a boot to get across. Where the slide came down in 2010, it looks like Irene pushed more stuff down, so the first crossing there involved climbing carefully over several feet of piled up trees and debris with the brook running underneath.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A couple small blowdowns on the loop, more of a nuisance than an impediment. Trails in good shape except at one of the crossings on Israel Ridge Path, it appeared the trail was washed away. Castle Ravine Trail is a testament to the Randolph Mountain Club, with the exception of the slide debris, the trail was in great shape and easy to follow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Almost non-existent early in the day, a few buzzing around on Jefferson summit, and really annoying on Castle Trail, especially once past the 4-way junction with The Link

Comments
Comments: A perfect day to do some red-lining and get some views from Jefferson. I took my time getting up to the floor of the ravine, some of the crossings were interesting to say the least. Soaked in the views as I climbed the ravine, and basked in them until I finally got below treeline on Castle Trail later in the day. Spent about 30 minutes on the summit, with bright sunshine and light winds, chatting with a group of three that came up Castle Ravine right after me, they had an ambitious journey ahead of them. From Jefferson, they were planning to go down Six Husbands, then go up Wamsutta, and down Huntington to get to Pinkham. All in all, great to be above treeline for hours in comfortable temperatures and winds.
