Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Smaller lot at N. Twin had room, and larger Gale River had plenty of room. I-93 in the Notch is being paved and the signs warn of 15 minute or "possibly long waits", although we missed any long delays.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Standing/Running Water on Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rock hops but the Little River crossing (third) was a bit more complicated. Helle and Toby waded, the rest of us used the large rocks (some a bit underwater, poles helpful) to hop across. We could have used the blowdowns but the two big dogs probably wouldn't have liked that, and they weren't needed given the rocks route. A couple of guys doing the loop in the opposite direction to us waded across at the first crossing, and then wacked up the west side. It looked like there might be a doable rock hop with poles and gaiters at this first crossing.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are removable blowdowns between the Twins and on N. Twin, but I forgot to transfer my saw from the winter pack, but since they are causing walk arounds it would be good to get them. There is a stretch of very muddy trail on the lower Gale River causing people to use the sides, and the same for a part of the N. Twin in the steeps, where water is running in the trail from a brook side branch, and there is erosion in other areas. The new section of Gale River was in great shape; not the mud mess it was so much of last year.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Cinnilla, Toby and Pepper had a grand time, with plenty of treats, lots of good sippin 'n dippin spots, nice temps and plenty of pack comraderie. We were glad we all had water for the dogs too, and stopped them at places to drink where they would have otherwise just kept going.
Bugs
Bugs: Black flies at the parking areas, but no real problems.

Comments
Comments: A gorgeous day, great companions, generally nice trails and delightful views from the Twins all made for a wonderful day. It was also nice to bag one of the 50 peaks without a view. The hut was open and selling brownies and Per generously treated. We only met a small number of people on this workday, but all were obviously enjoying the day. What a splendid hike.
