Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We parked at the Lafayette Campground. Plenty of room. I-93 work in that area causes some problems and delays. Nice big moose at side of I-93 on way home. Took some pictures.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Ice - Blue, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Unstable)
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nothing difficult.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All good except for Kinsman Ridge Trail had a couple of major blowdowns that should be cleared. One (a beech?) is just 100 yards or so from the Tramway parking area and you can kind of fight your way through the brushy part without going around and the other is a spruce about half a mile further up that trail from the tramway parking. We cleared a couple of pieces of that one off the trail but the main part of the tree would require a saw to get it off the trail. Any other blowdowns on our route were stepovers or duckunders. The sign for the Dodge Cutoff at the Hi-Cannon junction is almost completely missing. You can make out the letters "CUT..." of the fragment that remains and that's it.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Didn't see dogs any but the blue ice and the ladder may have caused difficulty for some.
Bugs
Bugs: None.

Comments
Comments: We made a loop from Lafayette campground up over Cannon Mountain via Kinsman Ridge trail and then back from the Tramway parking to the car via the Pemi Trail, although most of our walking back was on the bike path in order to save some knees. The AMC book warns of an important turn on the Hi-Cannon which we missed and ended up back on the Lonesome Lake trail so we adjusted our route to the Dodge Cutoff and it all added maybe .6 to the day. It was nice to see Lonesome Lake up close anyway. A couple of us used some traction on the blue ice and crumbling monorail on a short stretch of the KR Trail descending northbound but it is mostly unnecessary as there were usually rocks you can step on. Thanks to Al and Pizza Dough for a nice hike.
